Council Sets May 2027 Vote On Sewer Debt
Barnstable sets a May 4, 2027 vote on exempting sewer bonds from the tax cap.
Select Board · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Barnstable sets a May 4, 2027 vote on exempting sewer bonds from the tax cap. Town Manager Mark Els told the town council the Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan is legally required regardless of a pending Conservation Law Foundation lawsuit, saying "implementation is required by regulation, it's the law." The debt exclusion question, already scheduled by council vote, would fund eight sewer expansions including Huckins Neck, Old Craigville Road and Prince Cove. Monthly public discussions on funding are planned ahead of the vote.
Separately, Director of Planning and Development Jim Kupfer said construction is imminent on the Downtown Hyannis Great Streets project, converting Main, South and Ocean streets back to two-way traffic and adding a roundabout at the "Six Points" intersection, with completion targeted for summer 2027 at the earliest.
