Select Board · Meeting of August 20, 2026

Barnstable's building commissioner ordered a cease-and-desist on construction at a proposed Hyannis homeless shelter after the Zoning Board of Appeals overturned its permit. Town Manager Mark Ells reported the order took effect August 14, days after the ZBA's July 22 decision was filed with the town clerk on August 4. Ells also warned the town faces a "significant fiscal challenge" from an unsustainable reliance on reserves and said override and debt-exclusion votes are among options the Finance Director will detail at the Town Council's first September meeting.

DPW's Kelly Colopy outlined fall sewer construction across Centerville, Marstons Mills and Osterville, including a Town Council vote expected on roadway easements for the 90-percent-designed Long Pond project. Deputy HR Director Tammy Cunningham said the Town Hall elevator goes offline September 8 through December for replacement.
