Barnstable Conservation Panel Approves Long Pond Sewer Expansion
Conservation · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Barnstable Conservation Commission clears Long Pond sewer plan, orders wetland restorations. The commission voted unanimously to approve a Department of Public Works sewer expansion with two new pump stations near Long Pond, presented by Jack Troidal of Environmental Consulting and Technology, continuing only until the state issues a required DEP file number. Commissioners also resolved five enforcement cases, including unauthorized clearing of an entire wetland buffer near Cummaquid Golf Club by homeowner and Cape Cod Tech teacher Alex Reicher, who told the board, "I'm not trying to be against the grain...
I just want to come up with a solution that I can afford." The board softened the enforcement order's "professional restoration plan" language and floated pairing Reicher with Cape Cod Tech's horticulture students. Two Centerville properties were ordered to remove decades-old unpermitted docks, and a third homeowner must shrink an over-widened marsh path to its approved three-foot width by October 15. A hearing on a 33 Island View Road driveway and patio removal was continued to September 29 after commissioners pushed for a reworked mitigation plan.
