Barnstable Conservation Commission Approves All Four Projects in Unanimous August 4 Session
Conservation · Meeting of August 4, 2026
Barnstable Conservation Commission unanimously cleared four resource-area applications and three compliance certificates at its August 4 remote meeting. The commission, which convened at 6:30 p.m. and adjourned at 7:03 p.m., voted 7-0 on all business, including a negative determination allowing the Regency Drive Owners Association to restore a sand beach on Mystic Lake and a notice of intent permitting demolition and reconstruction of a barn-style accessory structure at 209 Bay Street in Osterville, subject to a revised site plan. The most procedurally notable action involved a pine-removal filing at 585 Centaur Road in Cotuit, where the commission conditioned an otherwise routine negative determination on submission of a replanting plan to Conservation Administrator Ed Hoops before the permit takes effect — an approach commissioners acknowledged is unusual for that filing type.
The homeowner, Gordon, told commissioners a pine fell on his house during a February blizzard and sent branches through a second-floor ceiling, prompting an arborist review that found multiple additional diseased and top-heavy trees on the property.
