BARNSTABLE — The Waterways Committee weighed a deferral system for mooring wait lists and four charter fishing slips at a May 12 workshop, taking no votes. Deputy Harbormaster Jay Horn said more than 70 percent of people offered a mooring pass, and that he emailed 564 people in 2025 and removed 122 from the list. Harbormaster Brian Taylor proposed holding four Barnstable Harbor marina slips for charter fishing vessels.
Charter operator Jeff Kadish said "we're at a very critical time in losing the entire charter boat industry in the harbor." Horn also offered three options for Kituwa Town Dock small boats: a higher fee, a mooring-holder limit or a lottery. Taylor said fee change requests go to the town manager in October.
